Are you looking for Christian twitters to follow? I always am. Over the weekend I saw someone tweet about Twellowship and thought I would give it a try. Basically by signing up you agree to follow all the “VIP” members and 20 other members that have signed up. Supposedly all the members are Christians.
Signing up was easy to do, just enter your Twitter username and password. You are then presented with a page that allows you to automatically follow the required members. After you have follow the required number of members your Twitter profile now appears as an option for new members to follow.
The “VIP” membership is a paid option that guarantees you new followers. You are basically paying for followers and that is not something I will do. But as a regular member there is not a payment required but you are allowing Twellowship to send tweets out of your account every Friday about Twellowship. I didn’t care for this either. To not have the automatic tweets sent you have to upgrade to the “VIP” membership or close your account.
I like the idea of the Twellowship but don’t really care for the way it has been executed. Have you used it and if so, what’s your opinion?

I haven’t heard of this but I am not inclined to follow folks just because someone says so. Just because someone says they are a Christian doesn’t mean they follow Christ. And just because someone follows Christ doesn’t mean we have interests in common.
It sounds like it may be a potential way to get/send Twitter spam as well. It may not be, but I don’t like the payment options either…
I have to kinda agree.
I say kinda, because I tend to be hesitate in judging (okay, I’m not perfect either, and have slipped and learned through quick repriminding of our Heavenly Father), but at the same time…I’m concerned about whom I follow.
For me, if I follow someone (and pray someone feels the same about me), it’s because they have something on their blog or twitter, that I feel is just so encouraging or maybe even something I have to gain to learn in my Christian walk, that I would like to follow up with or maybe if it doesn’t call to me, maybe it will be touch and be of benefit to someone else who is following me or I’m following.
I think the payment option, really, is walking a fine line.
It’s not about the numbers. It’s about Him and be it just one person who is following us, or we are following them, it shouldn’t be about finding ways to gain numbers or “badges” and I feel does a disservice.
Mommy Reporter makes a great point-There is too much potential for spam and if someone “bought” the option with just that purpose in mind, it’s not fair for those who are following us or vice versa to be involuntary subject to that.
With that said, there is the counter balance, there is a potential to reach a greater audience to minister and encourage so it’s a case of well…good points and bad points.
I think the fair way is to just allow people do what they always do, and choose for themselves and not based on how much was paid and maybe recommend but not require.
As JoJo said, there are a lot of people who tend to claim to be Christians, but when you really begin to read their blogs or twitters, often post things that couldn’t be really shared in church or would make others who are followers “blush”.
There are unfortunately some people who don’t have sound doctrine that can be misleading and it makes it unfair for people to let their own discernment guide them in making those choices.
I like the new lists that Twitter offers. I started categorizing the people I follow on twitter since I do business, blogging and other areas too. I find it helps me but I am not finished yet at all.
hmm, I would be a bit worried to give the info out too because of spam issues!!! I just started a twitter account and also twitter for my church’s website…LOL so I am finally getting involved in the twitter thing!
